- TROUBLESHOOTING CD ROM INSTALLATION
-
- Problem The CD ROM cannot be accessed. The error messages "CD
- ROM is not compatible with High Sierra format" or "No
- SPC file" may be displayed.
-
- Resolution To confirm that the CD ROM is not being accessed, type
- DIR at the prompt assigned to the CD ROM drive. The
- error message, "File not found" indicates that the CD
- ROM drive cannot be read from your workstation.
-
- Commonly, the reason this is so is that you do not have
- the latest version of Microsoft's MS-DOS CD ROM
- Extensions, the MSCDEX.EXE file. Version 2.10 of the
- MSCDEX.EXE file must be used for the ISO 9660 format in
- which Faulkner's Dataworld(R) Infodisk is produced.
- Contact the manufacturer of your CD ROM player or
- Microsoft Corporation for the latest version of the MS-
- DOS CD ROM Extensions. Version 3.1 or higher of the MS-
- DOS operating system must also be used with the ISO
- 9660 format.
-
- Problem There is insufficient memory to run the KAware
- retrieval software. At least 520K must be free.
-
- Resolution To ascertain the amount of free memory, type CHKDSK at
- the DOS prompt. Make more memory available to the
- system with any of the following system configuration
- changes appropriate for your needs:
-
- Disable memory-resident programs.
-
- Change the BUFFERS= parameter in the CONFIG.SYS file to
- a smaller value.
-
- Disable hardware and software drivers that are not
- essential to CD ROM operation.
-
- If your system is using expanded memory, take advantage
- of it by altering your CONFIG.SYS file so that the
- callout for the Microsoft extensions reads
-
- DEVICE=MSCDEX.EXE /E
