  1.                   TROUBLESHOOTING CD ROM INSTALLATION

  3. Problem        The CD ROM cannot be accessed. The error messages "CD
  4.                ROM is not compatible with High Sierra format" or "No
  5.                SPC file" may be displayed. 
  6.  
  7. Resolution     To confirm that the CD ROM is not being accessed, type
  8.                DIR at the prompt assigned to the CD ROM drive. The
  9.                error message, "File not found" indicates that the CD
  10.                ROM drive cannot be read from your workstation. 
  11.  
  12.                Commonly, the reason this is so is that you do not have
  13.                the latest version of Microsoft's MS-DOS CD ROM
  14.                Extensions, the MSCDEX.EXE file. Version 2.10 of the
  15.                MSCDEX.EXE file must be used for the ISO 9660 format in
  16.                which Faulkner's Dataworld(R) Infodisk is produced.
  17.                Contact the manufacturer of your CD ROM player or
  18.                Microsoft Corporation for the latest version of the MS-
  19.                DOS CD ROM Extensions. Version 3.1 or higher of the MS-
  20.                DOS operating system must also be used with the ISO
  21.                9660 format.
  22.  
  23. Problem        There is insufficient memory to run the KAware
  24.                retrieval software. At least 520K must be free.
  25.  
  26. Resolution     To ascertain the amount of free memory, type CHKDSK at
  27.                the DOS prompt. Make more memory available to the
  28.                system with any of the following system configuration
  29.                changes appropriate for your needs:

  31.                Disable memory-resident programs.
  32.  
  33.                Change the BUFFERS= parameter in the CONFIG.SYS file to
  34.                a smaller value.
  35.  
  36.                Disable hardware and software drivers that are not
  37.                essential to CD ROM operation.
  38.  
  39.                If your system is using expanded memory, take advantage
  40.                of it by altering your CONFIG.SYS file so that the
  41.                callout for the Microsoft extensions reads
